Meet Our Staff
This is Dawn Olson, CPPS, CMPTI, owner and operator of DPC and one of her pets, Hopi, a Siamese mix. Dawn moved to Colorado in 1987 from Juneau, AK to attend Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology. After graduating with an Associated Degree in Applied Science, passing the state exam she began her career as a Certified Veterinary Technician. After several negative experiences with pet boarding, she decided to launch Distinctive Pet Care in 1995, and it became her full-time job in nine months, hiring her first sitter one year later. Wanting to have more influence in the Littleton pet community she purchased the Ken Caryl Laund-Ur-Mutt in 2005 which was renamed to The Ken Caryl Pet Spa in 2013. She is committed to helping pet owners learn the most practical and best ways to enjoy their pets and give them the best care and pet information possible.
**In March of 2011, Dawn became a certified American Red Cross Pet First Aid Instructor. In March of 2012 Dawn became a Canine Colors Facilitator and a PetTech Certified Instructor.** In December of 2013 Dawn became a Master PetTech Instructor. In September 2015 Dawn completed a 100-hour course in Canine Nutrition.
Holly V, Associate Pet Sitter, Office Manager, Sitter Support
Holly started with Distinctive Pet Care in May 2018. Holly was born and raised in the Littleton area. With a huge love for animals, Holly decided to begin petsitting after retiring from 27 years in local government. Holly has an ASS in Business Administration and is currently working on an AAS in Criminal Law.
Holly has had dogs, one horse, one cow, rabbits and fish for pets. She loves all animals and will love yours as if they were hers. “They bring such peace, love, and joy to our lives.”
Holly and her husband John have lived in Ken Caryl for 20 + years. They have 2 English Mastiff’s, Enzo & Keelah, both 5 years old and Bacio a 9-month-old Neapolitan Mastiff. Holly’s pet care experience has been working with a private trainer to develop a better understanding of large breed dogs and volunteering with a rescue that strictly deals with XL large breed dogs.
Holly can do morning, mid-day and evening sitting, walking, and loving on your animals. Holly loves to hike, take her dogs walking and to dog parks, gardening and camping with her husband and their dogs. Holly completed her Pet Tech Pet First Aid & CPR Training in June of 2018.
Kathy M, Associate Pet Sitter
Kathy started with Distinctive Pet Care in August 2016. Prior to joining Distinctive Pet Care, Kathy worked as a geophysical analyst in the oil and gas industry. When she left her position in the oil and gas industry, she knew it was time for a change. Since she grew up with cats and dogs and enjoyed pet sitting for neighbors, she decided it was time to focus on what she enjoys – taking care of furry family members. Kathy supports Warrior Canine Connection, Morris Animal Foundation and Canine Companions for Independence. She lives in Littleton and is pictured with here with her 12-year-old fur kid Cody. In her free time, Kathy enjoys hiking, golfing, kayaking and mountain biking in Grand Lake.
Kathy completed her Pet Tech First Aid and CPR training in August 2016.
Cathy T (aka Cat), Associate Pet Sitter
Cathy joined DPC in September 2016, after recognizing that she wanted to spend her days caring for animals. She has worn many hats since moving to Colorado from Nebraska in 1996, but most recently was a graphic designer and proofreader for 15 years. Cathy has a BS degree in Psychology with a minor in Gerontology, and an AAS degree in Multimedia and Graphic Design. She is a lifelong fan of animals big and small and grew up with a dog, a bird, and several tanks full of fish. In her 20s, she started adopting rabbits, then added cats, chinchillas, and guinea pigs to the mix. At one point, there were 17 critters living under her roof! Cathy first began pet sitting for friends and family approximately 10 years ago, and has also worked at two doggie daycares in the metro area. She is very excited to devote her time to caring for animals on a regular basis, and can’t wait to meet your furry (or feathery, or scaly) family!
Cathy completed her Pet Tech Pet First Aid & CPR training in October 2016.
Lis D, Associate Pet Sitter
Lis joined us in February 2017 after relocating to Littleton from Atlanta, Georgia. She moved here with her boyfriend, her cat Allie, and her pup, Java. Lis worked for a pet sitting company in Atlanta and knew she wanted to keep caring for pets when she arrived in Colorado.
Lis is originally from New Jersey and moved to Atlanta, in 1991. In 2013, she left the corporate world after 30 years. Recognizing her purpose to help and serve others, Lis began working part-time as a Pet Sitter and Yoga Instructor. Lis is looking forward to this next chapter of her life in Colorado, which includes caring for your pets! Lis enjoys knitting, yoga, swimming, traveling, hiking, and outdoor activities.
Lis completed her Pet Tech Pet First Aid & CPR training in April, 2017.
Cassie P, Associate Pet Sitter
Cassie joined Distinctive Pet Care in May of 2017. She is originally from Illinois but has lived in Florida and California before recently moving to Littleton. She graduated from the University of Florida with High Honors and a Journalism degree. She has worked for magazines and in communications for SunTrust Bank and the Florida Dairy Farmers. Now she is happily married to Shawn, the teaching pastor at Foothills Bible Church, and is a stay-at-home mom to three kids, ages 10-15. As her kids got more expensive, she needed a part-time job that worked with the family schedule. Pet sitting and caring for peoples’ homes is a perfect fit! She has always loved animals and was raised with a German Shepherd and a Cocker Spaniel. She currently mothers 2 Australian Labradoodles, Kai and Charlie, and has attended dog obedience classes. She has taken care of friends’ cats and dogs while owners were away and assisted her kids with their pet tortoise, gecko and fish over the years. Dubbed “a creative,” Cassie loves aerial arts, dance, and yoga. Hosting friends and family in her home is also a great passion. She can’t wait to host your beloved pets!

Nikki B, Associate Pet Sitter
My name is Nikki Blanford. I am a native Coloradan. I love enjoying our beautiful state with my husband, two beautiful girls, and my two dogs. My animal family consists of Lily, who is an 11-year-old Maltese Shih-Tzu mix, Luna, a 3-year-old Shih-Tzu, and 2 cats Tate and Nala. Tate has a neurological disorder and we rescued him just before his time was up at the shelter. The shelter felt that they were not seeing any improvement and he was not being adopted. My daughter fell in love with him and we decided that our family was the perfect place for his little life, regardless of how long that would be. Tate is now 3 years old and is thriving. He has some wobbles and can’t jump high, but is happy and healthy and otherwise at home!
I have worked for over 10 years in the hospice field and am now going back to school to get my master’s degree in social work. Working as a pet sitter for Distinctive Pet Care has given me the wonderful opportunity to complete school and do something that I love, spend time with animals. I look forward to meeting your family of pets!
Nikki completed her Pet Tech Pet First Aid & CPR Training in June of 2018.
Julie H, Associate Pet Sitter
Julie joined our team of pet sitters in June 2018. After living in Georgia the past 20 years, in April 2018, my little Shih-Poo, Daisy and I, packed our bags, made the move back to Colorado, where she was raised. She has always had a deep love for animals and enjoyed her own dog and (my daughters) cats for many years. She also has a passion for horses and has spent much of her life with them. Julie worked as a professional pet sitter in Georgia for 5 years and knew she wanted to continue pet sitting when she moved back to Colorado. She looked for a reputable, long-standing business and found Distinctive Pet Care.
“I look forward to helping you with your furbabies!”
Julie completed her Pet Tech Pet First Aid & CPR training in June 2018.
